The Lobby

October 8, 2011

The Lobby is a floating art space based in Rochester, New York, brought to you by co-curators Thievin’ Stephen and Rebecca Rafferty. Our residency at Bug Jar began last night with the opening of our inaugural show: “(2BCON’T)” by Kurt Ketchum. For more info visit http://lobbydigital.com/, where we’ll be posting photos of Kurt’s impressive body of work in the coming days.

During the opening we showed Rasta Von‘s documentary about the BBoy BBQ  (FUA Krew‘s annual, international graffiti jam). Meanwhile in front of the bar, Thievin’ Stephen, Mr. Prvrt, & Biles painted the owner of Utter Clutter‘s car. Here’s some footage of the car:

Spokes & Ink

September 18, 2011

Back on August 27th I was in Spokes & Ink (a group poster show juried by the Genesee Center for the Arts & Education) the theme of which was anything bicycles. The poster I created, about a week after getting hit by a car while riding my bike in downtown Rochester, focused on this city’s need for bike lanes.

The remaining posters are now available. This is a limited edition of 50 prints, each signed and numbered.

The Good Foot

July 18, 2011

Emily Good is a Rochester woman who was wrongfully arrested for Obstruction of Governmental Administration after exercising her legal right to videotape, from her own front yard, a traffic stop involving 3 white officers and a handcuffed black motorist. The video of Good’s arrest has since gone viral, stirring international media attention. Good’s charges were eventually dismissed on June 27, 2011, but not before some disturbing events occurred:

On June 23rd, Good’s back door was kicked in, and the iPhone used to film her arrest was stolen. Laptops, iPods, DVDs, CDs, a TV, and a DVD player -all in clear view- were reportedly left behind by the, you know, unidentified assailant(s).

Later in the day, as community members gathered in support of Emily Good at The Flying Squirrel Community Space, several Rochester Police Department cruisers converged on Clarissa Street and ticketed all attendees who had parked further than 12″ from the curb– in some cases by a mere half inch. Thanks to Rochester Indymedia, this petty act of intimidation was captured on video.

As a measurement of just how out of control the RPD has gotten since the Police Chief became Mayor Lieutenant Governor, I created these 41 rulers on June 27, 2011:

The Good Foot rulers have been donated to The Flying Squirrel Community Space (285 Clarissa Street), where they can be purchased, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to The Squirrel.
